ZoomText launches in a disabled state (with no magnification or speech) and will not enable

This article applies to:

ZoomText® 10.1

ZoomText 11

Windows® 10 64-bit (might not be limited to this OS)

Onboard Intel® graphics and switchable NVIDIA® graphics card

When launching ZoomText, the splash screen is displayed and then the unmagnified ZoomText user interface (UI) appears on the screen. ZoomText is disabled. Attempting to enable it does not work. This problem can occur if there are onboard Intel graphics and an automatically switchable NVIDIA video card.

To fix this problem, adjust the Intel graphics and NVIDIA settings as follows:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. If Control Panel  is in Category view, TAB once, SPACEBAR, then type S to select Small Icons view.
  3. Open Intel Graphics and Media.
  4. Select the Advanced mode.
  5. Under Power, select Maximum Performance.
  6. Select OK.
  7. While in Control Panel, open NVIDIA Control Panel.
  8. Navigate to Manage 3D Settings.
  9. In Preferred Graphics Processor, select Integrated Graphics.
  10. Select OK.
  11. Restart the computer and open ZoomText.
