ZoomText® 11 and Fusion® 11 do not read web pages in Mozilla® Firefox 56

This article applies to:

ZoomText Magnifier/Reader 11.6 and earlier

ZoomText Fusion 11.6 and earlier

Mozilla Firefox 56

Changes were made in both ZoomText Magnifier/Reader and Fusion 11.6 in order to read web pages using the Mozilla Firefox 55 web browser.  Due to modifications made in the Mozilla Firefox 56 update however, the ZoomText and Fusion reading tools (AppReader, SpeakIt tool and mouse echo) do not work when used in Mozilla Firefox 56.

Mozilla Firefox has an “Extended Support Release” (ESR) version that is not updated as frequently as the mainstream version. Typically, large organizations use it to minimize usability issues due to frequent feature changes, but anyone can use it. We have tested ZoomText and Fusion 11.6 with the current ESR (52.4.0) and all the reading tools work. Using the Mozilla Firefox ESR is a sensible option for accessibility software users.

To use Mozilla Firefox ESR:

  1. First, uninstalling all versions of Mozilla Firefox presently on your computer is recommended.
  2. Download and install Firefox ESR from the following link:
