ZoomText USB won’t autostart

The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText USB 9.13 and later
  • Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1

PROBLEM

With the latest security updates for Windows Vista and Windows 7, the ZoomText USB will no longer auto start when you insert it into the USB port of the computer. What this means is that if ZoomText is not installed on the computer and you plug in the ZoomText USB, the "setup.exe" option will no longer be listed in the AutoPlay dialog box to easily start the ZoomText installation. Furthermore, if ZoomText is installed and you plug in the ZoomText USB, ZoomText will not automatically launch.

WORKAROUND

When you insert the ZoomText USB in the USB port, the first dialog box that will come up will look like the following screenshot:

Select "Open folder to view files" and press Enter. This will open the contents of the ZoomText USB. Select the file called "ZoomTextUSBAutoStart" and press Enter:

If ZoomText is already installed, ZoomText will open.

If ZoomText is not installed yet, a message will appear "ZoomText is not installed on this computer. Would you like to install it now?" Click Yes to start the installation.
