The information in this article applies to:

  • ZoomText 9.1x, 10.0 and 10.1
  • Firefox 4 and later

Mozilla's latest releases of Firefox include support for HTML5, Direct2D and other new hardware acceleration technologies designed to increase the speed and performance of Firefox. These new technologies bring new challenges for accessibility programs like ZoomText. More specifically, these technologies will have adverse effects on ZoomText's xFont technology.

To help remedy these xFont issues with ZoomText and Firefox 4 and up please do the following steps below.

Please make sure your version of ZoomText is up to date to the 9.19.1 version by going to our updates web page to download and install the update (http://www.aisquared.com/support/more/updates/).

  • To determine your version of ZoomText go into ZoomText click on the Help menu, then click on About ZoomText. In the dialog box look at the area that says Version. Click Close.

Please do the following if you have the Firefox menu bar on:

    1. Click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. In the Options dialog box click on the Advanced icon.
    3. Make sure the General tab is selected.
    4. Under the Browsing section look for the Use hardware acceleration when available.
    5. Uncheck the checkbox for Use hardware acceleration when available:

Browsing dialog box

  1. Then click OK.
  2. Close Firefox and restart it.

Please do the following if you do not have the Firefox menu bar on:

    1. Click on the Firefox start menu at the top left of the screen.
    2. In the Menu go to Options.
    3. Arrow over to the sub menu and click on Options.
